The Student Visa (Subclass 500) allows international students to live and study full-time at registered Australian educational institutions.

1. Eligibility Criteria

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a CRICOS-registered institution
  • Meet Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, PTE)
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
  • Valid passport

2. Application Process

  • Apply and receive a CoE from an Australian institution
  • Create an ImmiAccount and complete the visa application online
  • Pay the visa application fee (AUD $710 approx.)
  • Upload required documents
  • Complete medical exams and biometrics if requested
  • Await visa decision

3. Required Documents

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
  • Valid passport
  • English test results
  • Proof of financial capacity
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
  • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement
  • Health and character documents

4. Visa Duration

The visa is generally valid for the duration of your course, with additional time granted after completion for travel or further applications.

5. Work Opportunities

  • Work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study sessions
  • Unlimited work during official breaks
  • Post-study work rights under the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

6. Dependents

Dependents (spouse and children) can be included. Spouses of master's or PhD students may work full-time. Children may attend school.
